Tried the other spots at the other harbour for around 2 hours first, but wasn't successful as there were no ferries arriving there, but at this spot I waited right at the spot where the cars come off of the ferry and found some nice guys who took me all the way to Athens (which was pretty lucky I guess)

Very wide road, a lot of people go to Athens, especially on Sunday. Plenty of space for cars to stop. You're visible from the far. A greek took me to Kifisia in Athens, nice ride.

Spot is good if you need to go to Athens, there's a little parking area for cars to stop. I waited at a traffic light at this intersection. A Georgian worker stopped and brought me to Athens, Syntagma. Nice ride

By European standards, terrible. Three hours for a short ride. Next time I'm in town, I'm searching far and wide for a better spot.

That's a very bad point to start hitch-hiking north. Better try the spot in Agios Stefanos, at the terminus of the bus 509, when you are already out of the city.

The only spot for going north described on the "Athens" hitchwiki page, recommended to get any short ride to first toll station and then try to get long-distance ride

(did some mistakes in the story anyway, Greece can be hard for hitchhikers, peace)

It was on the 24th July 2010
After 4.5 hours of walking (getting lost in small streets), I was warned by a service operator that
The toll is forbidden for hitchhikers, and one of the girls told him to get my ass out of here. He suggested me to continue my way by going south on the national road, bad idea either. I had to throw my bag above the fence (2.3 meters or so) and my french id card was checked by two police motocycles one hour after at another spot (just at an entrance to the national road)

Going out of Athenes is like going out of Paris. Good luck
The spot was great. I manage to go on the highway 🙌🏼
There is some bus stop if you are stuck too.

Easy ride to Athena, did not wait at all. I may have been lucky but I think its a really good spot. I also was able to sleep not far from the canal, on the opposite side.

Many cars passing by, nobody stopped for hours. One guy stopped and wanted to give me 50€ for the bus. Then a local guy who saw me 1,5h earlier stopped and took me even though he didn't even needed to go my direction. Friendly people in Greece but they just don't get the concept of hitchhiking.
